09-06-2017 - 9 June 2017: Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air Actions

The Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau (Beijing EPB), local government environmental authority, organized the “Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air Actions” that took place in Beijing (China) on 8–9 June 2017 at Xiyuan Hotel in Beijing.
The Forum, participated by over 150 international experts, aimed at sharing experiences for air quality management in Metropolises to deepen technological cooperation in air quality monitoring, forecasting and environmental emergency response with special focus on new sensing technologies, sensor networks and chemical weather forecasting.
EuNetAir was represented by Action Chair, Michele Penza (ENEA, Italy) as keynote speaker contributing to give overview on sensor–systems and best practices on new sensing technologies for air pollution control and environmental sustainability from Europe. Many top–level experts and world–class air quality city–managers from USA, Japan, China, Korea, Mexico and Europe attended delivering outstanding lectures on the most recent approaches to manage cleaner air quality in the worldwide cities.

15-12-2016 - 15 December 2016: EuNetAir finalizes a joint–publication on Aveiro intercomparison

COST Action TD1105 has successfully finalized a joint–publication devoted to the intercomparison sensors–versus–analyzers, carried out in Aveiro (Portugal), 13–27 October 2014, in the peer–review journal Atmospheric Environment, Elsevier (ATMENV, Vol. 147, Dec. 2016, 246 – 263). This work has been participated by 29 co–authors from the EuNetAir network.

15-11-2016 - 15 November 2016: Fourth Open Call for STSMs of the COST Action TD1105

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir, via MC approval, has launched an Open Call for Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) to be used priority by Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) and secondly by experienced scientists in the fourth grant period (1 July 2015 – 15 November 2016).
Early Stage Researchers, pre– or post–doctoral researchers, involved in the Action items, that would like to visit some Institutions/Organizations of the participating European Countries, can be financially supported by EuNetAir, applying for a Short–Term Scientific Mission (STSM).
The installed STSMs Committee, chaired by STSM Coordinator (Dr. Jan Theunis, VITO, Belgium), in collaboration with Action Chair, and supported by Grant Holder (Eurice GmbH) has planned the approval of at least 9 motivated STSMs, depending on available budget, for scientific and technical cooperation in the current research fields of the Action EuNetAir. This was an effort of the Action to support ESRs by the tool of the STSMs at high impact.
Reports of the approved STSMs, after mission, will be available in the restricted area of these webpages and accessed by STSM Committee and MC Members/Substitutes.
The list of the approved STSMs is continuously updated in the section STSMs of these webpages. Please, visit our Action webpages to be informed on eligibility and how to apply for a STSM in the Action period Year 4 (1 July 2015 – 15 November 2016).

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has planned the Final Meeting including Working Groups Meeting and 9th Management Committee Meeting, that will take place at Czech Academy of Sciences, under local chairing of Prof. Zdenek Zelinger (MC Member), Dr. Vera Kurkova (MC Member), and Dr. Roman Neruda (MC Substitute) in Prague, Czech Republic, 5 – 7 October 2016.
This Meeting will involve the Action partnership with European Speakers from Action, External International Experts, Young Researchers, Scientists, Practitioners, Stakeholders.
The Action partnership will discuss on New Sensing Technologies for Air Quality Monitoring in a multidisciplinary approach including International Experts and Coordinators of the running FP7 and H2020 research projects in order to consolidate the impact of COST Action TD1105.

19-04-2016 - 19 – 22 April 2016: 4th TRAINING SCHOOL EuNetAir on Modelling, Methods and Technologies for Air Quality Control

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has organized the fourth TRAINING SCHOOL on Modelling, Methods and Technologies for Air Quality Control to be held at Emdrup Campus in Copenhagen, Denmark, 19 – 22 April 2016, under management of the Aarhus University, Department of Environmental Science, coordinated by Prof. Ole Hertel, MC Danish Member of the Action.
The four–day Training School, from Tuesday to Friday, will be organized towards at least 13 reimbursed trainees and maximum 2 reimbursed trainers, mainly from COST partnership. Limited extra grants at no funding for local students are eligible.


The Training School will be devoted to specific core–issues of COST Action TD1105 such as environmental measurements, methods for air quality control, atmospheric pollution, environmental technologies, reference methods, air quality modelling, air pollution detection systems, sensors for air quality control, data fusion.


Graduated students, Master students, PhD students, Early Stage Researchers will be involved from COST partnership and COST Countries signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) including Near Neighbour Countries (NNC) approved institutions in open way. A fruitful exchange of knowledge and research experiences from senior teachers to young trainees is highly expected with scientific discussions on S&T fundamentals and frontier research.

Deadline for Applications Submission: 10 March 2016.

On behalf of the MC of the COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir, we congratulate with Prof. Stanislaw Gawronski, Action MC Member and EuNetAir partner from Poland, awarded with the international Milton Gordon Prize 2015 for his excellence in the Phytotechnology Research, achieved during the annual 12th Conference of the International Phytotechnologies Society, held in Manhattan, Kansas (USA), at the end of September 2015.
Prof. Stanislaw Gawronski serves as Poland Member in the Management Committee of the COST Action TD1105 giving many outstanding Lectures at the various EuNetAir Meetings on his research interests referred to the plants, including advice for future plans of the COST Action EuNetAir.

EuNetAir Joint–Exercise Sensors–versus–Analyzers
COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has planned a Working Group (WG1–WG4) Meeting on Air Quality Monitoring and Calibration: Horizons in Sensing Technologies, Methods and Modelling, that will take place at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade, in Belgrade (Serbia) on 13 – 14 October 2014, under local chairing and organization of Dr. Milena Jovasevic–Stojanovic, Action MC Member, VINCA Institute, Belgrade, and co–chairing of Dr. Anka Cvetkovic, Action MC Member, Public Health Institute of Belgrade.
COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has jointly organized the second Air Quality Joint–Exercise Intercomparison on Evaluation and Assessment of Environmental Gas/PM MicroSensors versus Standardised AQ Referenced Methods by Experimental Campaign of Air Quality Urban Monitoring to be held in Belgrade (Serbia) starting on 13 October 2015 with a duration of at least 1 month.
Air Quality Campaign at city centre by an Air Quality Mobile Laboratory will be performed by continuous environmental measurements with standardized equipment and referenced analyzers: CO, NOx, O3, SO2, PM10, Benzene, VOC, temperature, relative humidity, wind velocity/direction, solar radiation, precipitation (rain).
All COST Action EuNetAir partners are kindly invited to install their micro–sensors and sensor–systems side–by–side with air quality standardized equipment in the Mobile Laboratory to perform the AQ experimental campaign in the Belgrade city for air quality urban monitoring.

In this occasion, EuNetAir has been invited to organize a Session on Action networking activities by 6 Invited Talks from Action Leadership (Chair, Vice–Chair, WG–Leaders, MC Members/Substitutes and External Expert).
The Conference will be attended by at least 400 persons with experts in the field of the Sensors Applications. This is a very good opportunity to disseminate EuNetAir networking activities in a targeted audience at European top–class and international level.

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has planned a Focus Group Meeting at ISOEN 201516th International Symposium on Olfaction and Electronic Noses – to disseminate EuNetAir activities on New Sensing Technologies for Air–Pollution Control and Environmental Sustainability, that will take place at Dijon, Burgundy, (France) on 28 June – 1 July 2015.
This Meeting will interest the Action partnership mainly members, researchers and scientists attending to ISOEN 2015 to give presentations (oral and posters) to disseminate EuNetAir activities in the ISOEN community. This was a very good opportunity to disseminate EuNetAir networking activities in a targeted audience at European top–class.

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir, represented by Action Chair (Michele Penza, ENEA, Italy) has been invited to participate with a Talk in the COST Workshop devoted to COST Highlights on Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, organized by COST Association, during the conference EuroNanoForum 2015, organized by European Commission, and taken place in Riga (Latvia) on 10 – 12 June 2015.
This COST Workshop, chaired by the Science Officer Maria Moragues Canovas, was attended by 5 speakers from Actions, Head of COST Science Operations (Prof. Tatiana Kovacikova), with at least 100+ participants. This was a very good opportunity to disseminate EuNetAir networking activities in a targeted audience at European top–class.

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has organized the third TRAINING SCHOOL on Atmospheric Aerosol Physics, Measurement and Sampling to be held in Hyytiala (Helsinki), Finland, on 1 – 8 May 2015 under management of University of Helsinki, Department of Physics, coordinated by Prof. Kaarle Hameri. The seven–day Training School, from Friday to Friday, will be organized towards maximum 12 reimbursed trainees and maximum 2 reimbursed trainers, mainly from COST partnership.
The Training School will be devoted to specific core–issues of COST Action TD1105 such as atmospheric aerosol measurements: physical, mechanical and electrical properties, sampling losses, particle filters, impactors, mobility and aerodynamic size spectrometers, particle counters, integrating nephelometers, absorption photometers, online mass measurements, aerosol mass spectrometer, aerosol sampling and dryers, and air pollution detection systems.

17-04-2015 - Focus Group Meeting on Data Analysis of Aveiro Air Quality Sensors Intercomparison

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has planned a Focus Group Meeting on Data Analysis of Aveiro Air Quality Sensors Intercomparison, that will take place at WHO Collaborating Centre (CC) for Air Quality Management and Air Pollution Control – Federal Environment Agency (FEA), UBA, in Berlin (Germany) on 17 April 2015.
This Meeting will interest the Action partnership mainly experts, researchers and scientists already involved in the Aveiro Joint–Exercise Intercomparison in order to setup and process the Aveiro AQ Sensors Database, as collected during the experimental campaign (13–27 October 2014) in Aveiro by the Air Quality Mobile Laboratory, provided by IDAD, performing continuous environmental measurements with standardized equipment and referenced analyzers.

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has approved the financial support of the ISOCS Short Course Winter 2015 on Electronic Noses and their Panorama of Sensors to be held in Ponte di Legno – Tonale, Brescia (Italy) on 8 – 13 March 2015 under management of ISOCS (International Society for Olfaction and Chemical Sensing) and organized by University of Brescia (Italy).

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has planned the Third Scientific Meeting including Working Groups Meeting and 6th Management Committee Meeting, that will take place at Bahcesehir University, Besiktas Campus, Istanbul, and organized by GEBZE Institute of Technology, Action MC Member, and Bahcesehir University, at Istanbul (Turkey) on 3 – 5 December 2014.
This Meeting will involve the Action partnership with European Speakers from Action, External International Experts, Young Researchers, Scientists, Practitioners, Stakeholders.
The Action partnership will discuss on New Sensing Technologies for Indoor Air–Pollution Monitoring in a multidisciplinary approach including International Experts and Coordinators of the running FP7 and H2020 research projects in order to consolidate an EU Projects Cluster on Indoor Environment Quality and Applications, with a possible patronage and sponsorship of the EC DG Research and Innovation.

We kindly inform that COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir, represented by Action Chair (Michele Penza, ENEA, Brindisi, Italy) was invited to participate as Main Discussant in the Renaturing Cities Conference, hold in Milan (Italy), 1 – 2 December 2014, at Aula Magna of the Politecnico di Milano, under organization and management of the EC – DG Research & Innovation – Unit Sustainable Management of Natural Resources, under the Auspices of the 2014 Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Fruitful and visionary discussions were focused on Nature–based Solutions towards Renaturing Cities for Healthier, Happier and Safer Societies in Europe.
Jurgen Frick (University of Stuttgart, Germany), FP7 project CETIEB Coordinator, was also Main Discussant at conference.
This was a very good opportunity to disseminate the EuNetAir networking activities/results on the air quality monitoring technologies and environmental sustainability towards the European Commission DG R&I policy–makers and international targeted audience.

We kindly inform that COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir, represented by Action Chair (Michele Penza, ENEA, Brindisi, Italy) was invited to participate with an Introductory Presentation in the Characterization – SENSORS Cluster Workshop, hold in Brussels (Belgium), 27 November 2014, at Covent Garden, under organization and management of the EC – DG Research & Innovation – Directorate KET – Unit Advanced Materials and Nanotechnologies.
EuNetAir network was also present with the Prof. Andreas Schuetze (Saarland University, Germany), FP7 project SenSIndoor Coordinator, giving a Keynote Talk, and Dr. Corinna Hahn (Eurice GmbH, Saarbrucken, Germany), Action Grant Holder, serving the Cluster as Stakeholder. The Coach of the EU Sensors Cluster was Dr. Rudolf Frycek (Amires, Neuchatel, Switzerland).
Michele Penza, Action Chair, was nominated Chair of the EU Sensors Cluster. This is a very good opportunity to finalize the EuNetAir networking activities/results on the air quality monitoring technologies and environmental sustainability towards the European Commission DG R&I policy–makers by outstanding bottom–up S&T inputs.

COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has planned a Working Group (WG1–WG4) Meeting on New Sensing Technologies and Modelling for Air–Pollution Monitoring, that will take place at Institute for Environment and Development (IDAD), University of Aveiro, in Aveiro (Portugal) on 14 – 15 October 2014.
COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has jointly organized the first Air Quality Joint–Exercise Intercomparison on Evaluation and Assessment of Environmental Gas/PM MicroSensors versus Standardised AQ Referenced Methods by Experimental Campaign of Air Quality Urban Monitoring to be held in Aveiro (Portugal) on 13 – 27 October 2014 under management of IDAD – Institute for Environment and Development, and University of Aveiro, coordinated by Prof. Carlos Borrego.
Air Quality Campaign at Aveiro city centre by an Air Quality Mobile Laboratory will be performed by continuous environmental measurements with standardized equipment and referenced analyzers: CO, NOx, O3, SO2, PM10, Benzene, VOC, temperature, humidity, wind velocity/direction, solar radiation, precipitation (rain).
All COST Action EuNetAir partners are kindly invited to install their micro–sensors and sensor–systems side–by–side with air quality standardized equipment in the IDAD Mobile Laboratory to perform the 2–week AQ experimental campaign at Aveiro city for air quality urban monitoring.

    04-06-2014 - Follow–up of the Internat. Symposium B at EMRS Spring Meeting 2014 by COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir

    We are happy to inform that the International Symposium on Advanced Functional Materials for Environmental Monitoring and Applications has been taken place in Lille (France) on 26 – 30 May 2014 as International Conference planned inside Action Roadmap.
    The Symposium Organizers are from Action: Michele Penza (ENEA, Italy), Anita Lloyd–Spetz (University of Linkoping, Sweden and Oulu University, Finland), Albert Romano–Rodriguez (Universitat de Barcelona, Spain), Yongxiang Li (Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China), Meyya Meyyappan (NASA Ames Research Center, USA).
    This Meeting was well–attended with high–quality Lectures in the specific science and technology. The number of submitted Abstracts was more than 200 and the Symposium was ranked as top–7 over 30 symposia of the EMRS–2014 Conference. A rate of rejection (or move to other symposia) as 11% was setup. 17 Invited Speakers and 55 Contributed Speakers given specific Lectures distributed in 13 Oral Sessions, and 107 Poster Presentations were organized in 2 Poster Sessions. The Participants were coming from Europe (75%), Asia/Oceania (18%) and Americas (7%).
    Moreover, the 5th Management Committee of the COST Action TD1105 was held on 30 May 2014 at EMRS Spring Meeting 2014, Lille, France.

    COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has organized the second TRAINING SCHOOL on Optimized Operation of Solid State Gas Sensors for Environmental Technologies and Air Quality Monitoring to be held in Saarbrucken (Germany) on 31 March – 2 April 2014 under management of Saarland University, Lab for Measurement Technology, coordinated by Prof. Andreas Schuetze.

    The three–day Training School, from Monday to Wednesday, will be organized towards at least 24 reimbursed trainees and at least 5 reimbursed trainers, mainly from COST partnership.

    The Training School will be devoted to specific core–issues of COST Action TD1105 such as gas sensors, devices, instrumentation, sensing technologies, sensor materials, environmental modelling, air–pollution detection, methods, standards and protocols.
    Graduated students, Master students, PhD students, Post–Doc, Early Stage Researchers will be involved from COST partnership and COST Countries signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) including Near Neighbour Countries (NNC) approved institutions in open way. A fruitful exchange of knowledge and research experiences from senior teachers to young trainees is highly expected with scientific discussions on S&T fundamentals and frontier research.

    09-02-2014 - 9–14 February 2014: EuNetAir for ISOCS Short Course Winter 2014

    We inform you that the 4th MC at Cambridge (20 December 2013) of the COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has approved the Action financial support of the ISOCS Short Course Winter 2014 on Reactivity of Solids, Kinetics, Catalysis, Definitions and Applications of Chemical Sensors to be held in Les Houches – Chamonix Valley (France) on 9–14 February 2014 under management of ISOCS (International Society for Olfaction and Chemical Sensing) and organized by Ecole De Physique des Houches and Universitè Joseph Fourier, Grenoble (France).
    A Call for Trainees (see section TRAINING SCHOOLS) has been launched to recruit on competitive basis at least 3 Trainees as young researchers from Action partnership of the MoU–signed Countries and NNC approved institutions.
    An Application Form is requested from interested Early Stage Researchers to submit to the Action management by the deadline of 20 January 2014.

    We are happy to inform you that the COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has organized the 1st International Workshop on New Sensing Technologies and Transducers for Air–Quality Monitoring, that will take place in Barcelona (Spain) on 20 June 2013 as Satellite Event inside Transducers 2013 – Eurosensors XXVII Conference to be held at Barcelona on 16–20 June 2013. Two Oral Sessions and one Poster Session will be held inside the Action workshop with European Speakers from Action and External International Experts.     13-06-2013 - First TRAINING SCHOOL on Environmental Technologies and Air–Quality Monitoring

    We are happy to inform you that the COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has organized the first TRAINING SCHOOL on Environmental Technologies and Air–Quality Monitoring to be held in Barcelona (Spain) on 13–15 June 2013 under management of Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Department of Electronics, MIND–group, in cooperation with CSIC–IDAEA, Barcelona. The three–day Training School, from Thursday to Saturday, will be organized towards at least 20 reimbursed trainees and at least 4 reimbursed trainers, mainly from COST partnership. The Training School will be devoted to specific core–issues of COST Action TD1105 such as nanostructures, sensor materials, sensing technologies, environmental modelling of air–pollution, models, standards and protocols. Graduated students, Master students, PhD students, Post–Doc, Early Stage Researchers will be involved from COST partnership and COST Countries signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in open way. A fruitful exchange of knowledge and research experiences from senior teachers to young trainees is highly expected. Additionally, the Training School is connected not only to the Action Workshop 1 (20 June 2013) as Satellite Event of Transducers 2013 but also to the 3rd MC Meeting to be held at Barcelona as well (tentatively on 21 June 2013).     30-04-2013 - 30 April 2013: 11 STSMs approved by STSMs Committee of the Action TD1105

    We inform you that the COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir has approved 11 STSMs (10 used by Early Stage Researchers). The STSMs Committee, chaired by STSM Coordinator (Dr. Jan Theunis, VITO, Belgium), in collaboration with Action Chair, has approved 11 motivated STSMs with total increased budget due to money saved from other Action items. This was an effort of the Action to support more Early Stage Researchers by the instrument of the Short Term Scientific Missions at high impact. Reports of the approved STSMs, after mission, will be available in the restricted area of these webpages and accessed by STSM Committee and MC Members/Substitutes. The list of the approved STSMs is reported in the section STSM Committee of these webpages. More STSMs are planned in the Year 2 (July 2013 – June 2014) with increased budget with respect to the Year 1 previous budget devoted to STSMs.

    04-03-2013 - Third AirMonTech FP7 project workshop

    We are happy to inform you that the third AirMonTech FP7 project workshop will take place in Duisburg (Germany) on March 4th–5th 2013 in cooperation with COST Action TD1105 EuNetAir. A Special Session COST Action TD1105 entitled ´Environmental Case Studies from Mediterranean, Central and Eastern Europe´ will be held inside the AMT workshop on 5th March 2013 with European Speakers from Action and External International Experts. Moreover, a WG3–WG4 Joint–Meeting of COST Action TD1105 will be held on 6th March 2013.

    In the framework of The XVII edition of the AISEM Annual Conference – Italian Association on Sensors and Microsystems – to be held in Brescia (Italy), at the University of Brescia Engineering and CNR Campus, February 5–7, 2013, the Chair of Action TD1105 EuNetAir has been invited to participate to give an Invited Lecture on COST Action TD1105 on new sensing technologies for air–pollution control and environmental sustainability: overview in Europe and new trends.
